More about pressotherapy
Pressotherapy is mechanical lymphatic drainage, which improves the quality of the lymphatic system, stimulates venous flow, and consequently increases the body’s ability to regenerate and eliminate toxic substances from tissues (stagnant fluids and metabolic waste products).
Pressotherapy also improves the body’s general resistance to inflammatory conditions and accelerates local blood circulation at the site of application of the device.
How does pressotherapy work?
In pressotherapy, we use mechanical pants equipped with a high-pressure air lymphatic drainage mechanism, which has effects similar to manual lymphatic drainage. The pants consist of several inflatable chambers that mimic manual lymphatic drainage and are excellent for promoting blood and lymph circulation. Pressotherapy is a good solution to the problem of fluid retention in the lower extremities.
Pressotherapy has the greatest positive effects for those with predominantly sedentary vocations and anyone who actively puts strain on their legs during recreational or professional sports activities. Pressotherapy also works as an anti-stress treatment as it has a strong relaxing effect on the body’s central nervous system.
- Compression: During the procedure, an air cuff is applied to the selected area. This creates pressure on the veins and lymphatic vessels in this area.
- Stimulation of circulation: The pressure created by the cuffs helps improve blood circulation. This is especially important for individuals with problems such as swelling, varicose veins, or other vascular problems.
- Lymphatic drainage: Pressotherapy stimulates the movement of lymph, which helps remove excess fluid and toxins from the body. This is especially beneficial in treating lymphoedema.
- Reduction of swelling: By increasing circulation and fluid drainage, pressotherapy helps reduce swelling in the affected area.
- Alleviation of symptoms: The procedure can bring relief from various conditions, such as tired legs, swelling, and pain in the legs or arms.
When do we use pressotherapy?
At MEDICOFIT clinic, pressotherapy is most often used in cases of swollen legs, acute or chronic impaired blood circulation in the legs, buttocks and abdomen, to improve regeneration after strenuous sports training, in cases of fat cell enlargement, as a means of optimising rehabilitation of postoperative conditions and chronic painful conditions, and in cases of varicose veins.
An important field of application of pressotherapy is in the prevention of inflammation of the venous system.
Other fields of application of pressotherapy are:
- treatment of lymphatic oedema,
- treatment of problems with swollen legs,
- prevention of venous thrombosis or the development of varicose veins,
- body detoxification,
- removal of locally present toxins,
- treatment of lower extremity ischemia problems,
- relaxation and regeneration of leg muscles,
- strengthening of connective tissue,
- acceleration of body fat loss,
- acceleration of healing of microinjuries as part of rehabilitation of chronic pain or traumatic injuries of the musculoskeletal system.
