Therapies

Physiotherapy is for people who want to become healthier and more physically active, while also realising that performing exercises with proper technique is key to good long-term health. At MEDICOFIT clinic, we are specialists in active injury rehabilitation. At our clinic, we aim to restore full motor function to patients through physiotherapy.

How are therapies done at MEDICOFIT clinic?

An important problem of physiotherapy in the public healthcare sector is the prolonged waiting period and passive approach to rehabilitation, which causes delayed development of function and often leaves the patient with permanent limitations and consequences.

In the past, physiotherapy was primarily done using the principle of generic protocols that were prescribed for individual types of injuries and painful conditions, while ignoring the most important factor, specifically the individual characteristics of the patient’s body type and injury.Physiotherapy is effective in treating injuries when protocols are designed individually for each patient.

When planning treatment protocols, the patient must be at the centre; it is important that the physiotherapist considers the mechanism of injury, the patient’s level of physical fitness, the specifics of previous surgical or non-surgical treatment, and the patient’s psychophysical limitations.

Modern physiotherapy individually tailors each therapy performed to the patient and is focused on early active rehabilitation using exercises that improve the patient’s muscle-joint function and their overall physical fitness.

The type and scope of therapy is determined individually for each patient based on the following factors:

  • type of rehabilitation (preoperative, postoperative, non-operative),
  • type of injury (contact, non-contact traumatic injury or chronic condition),
  • cause of injury,
  • presenting movement limitations,
  • specifics of pain symptoms,
  • specifics of swelling,
  • patient’s level of physical fitness,
  • presence of sutures, screws, plates, or other surgical material,
  • any muscle imbalances,
  • any imbalances in joint mobility,
  • any imbalances in local muscle endurance,
  • patient’s goal,
  • patient’s age,
  • patient’s psychological profile,
  • any contraindications to specific therapeutic techniques,
  • concurrent systemic diseases.
