More about sports massage
Sports massage is specialised for recreational and elite athletes. With sports massage, we focus on the tissues that are specifically stressed by the sporting activity in which the person is participating.
At Medicofit, we take a diagnostic approach to sports massage, believing that a detailed analysis of the muscle structure is essential before sports manual massage techniques can be carried out.
Sports massage is primarily applied to accelerate the local recovery of stressed muscle groups and as a means of prevention, as over-toned and shortened muscle groups are at risk of a traumatic injury such as a strained or torn muscle. One of the main objectives of sports massage is to ensure maximum functionality of the musculoskeletal system through manual techniques.
How is sports massage carried out and what are its effects?
Sports massage improves blood and lymphatic circulation, meaning that we increase the metabolic activity of the muscle at rest and stimulate the physiological processes of regeneration.
Another important segment of sports massage is the healing of micro-injuries caused by increased physical stress. Sports massage has a therapeutic effect on the caused micro-injuries, meaning that it promotes healing and reduces the body’s inflammatory response to the injury.
Successful sports massage requires prior clinical testing by a physiotherapist and manual testing of muscle group functionality. Sports massage should be aimed at improving the specific function of the person being massaged. Sports massage must be individually directed to the specific sport and body type of the person being massaged
Sports massage can also be used as part of the preparation for competitions, where the aim is to raise the internal muscle temperature and improve the physiological activity of the muscle before the actual effort, thus improving the athlete’s chances of performing better technical movements and reducing the likelihood of injuries.
At Medicofit, sports massage is used in combination with our state-of-the-art regeneration lodge, which means that after the sports massage, the athlete also receives high-frequency HiTop electrotherapy and pressotherapy (mechanical lymphatic drainage).
